Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering five health care training courses in Schuylkill County, and a limited number of scholarships are available to those who qualify.

An orientation for the Community Health Worker course will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, as well from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the same day. This free orientation, held at LCCC Tamaqua, 234 High St., will explain to students the program and its requirements. Community health workers provide guidance and social assistance to community residents, advocate for their health and provide referrals and follow-up services.

The Medical Office Administrator course runs Aug. 19 through Nov. 25, Mondays through Thursdays, from 5 to 9 p.m. There is no class Sept. 2. This program, held at LCCC Tamaqua, prepares students for employment as a medical office administrator, offering well-rounded knowledge of the basic aspects of the day-to-day operations in a medical office, including physician offices, hospitals or nursing homes. Tuition cost is $1,342 including books and fees.

The Phlebotomy Comprehensive course runs from Aug. 12 through Dec. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at LCCC Tamaqua. No class Sept. 2 or Nov. 27. Two Nurse Aide Orientation sessions are scheduled at LCCC Tamaqua, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16. This orientation will teach students about the program and the requirements for enrolling. A nurse aide is an important member of the healthcare team who provides direct care to residents under the supervision of a registered nurse.

The course will run from Sept. 7 through Jan. 4, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, plus every other Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tuition cost is $1,250 including text, and funding may be available to help offset the cost of tuition.
