Full-day event will include speakers environmental and sustainability issues

Northampton Community College (NCC) will hold a full-day of sustainability-themed events on Wednesday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in room 220, College Center, Bethlehem Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.

Speakers will discuss a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues. Topics include: Sustainability and the Community; What the Frack?; Climate Reality and the IPCC Report; What Now?; Student Led Initiatives; Will Engineering Save Us? Climate Change and Environmental Justice; and Green College Initiatives. Workshops include recycling and composting, tour of the East40, writing letters to the editor, and more.

We will conclude our symposium with a 6 p.m. presentation of the documentary “Paris to Pittsburg” with a Q&A to follow. “Paris to Pittsburg” is set against the national debate over the United States’ energy future, and the explosive decision to exit the Paris Climate Agreement. It captures what’s at stake for communities around the country and the inspiring ways Americans are responding.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered attendees. This event is sponsored by the Sustainability Committee, Geography and the NCC Climate Action Network club.

If you want a break during the symposium, you can walk out to the quad for NCC’s annual Earth Day event from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with our Farmer’s Market, student and environmental group tabling and live entertainment from noon – 1:30 p.m.

Registration is recommended. More information about the event will be posted on the Sustainability Committee’s, Geography Department’s and the Climate Action Network’s Facebook page (see links below). For more information or to be included on our mailing list please email Anita Forrester at
