FINAL APPEARANCE OF ANIMALS GONE VIRAL
It’s a sad day when you realize a dog has a way cooler job than you. Piper is an eight-year-old border collie and has the important responsibility of being the K-9 wildlife manager at Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Michigan. Every day, he works a full-time shift from the early morning to mid-afternoon chasing away birds, deer, and any other animals that may be obstructing the runways. He’s been doing this with his handler, Brian Edwards, since 2008. Piper has been trained to be accustomed to the sound of large aircraft flying overhead and goes into “launch mode” to chase wildlife that may be hazardous to planes attempting to take off or land. BuzzFeed caught wind of Piper’s unique occupation and word spread quickly. You can read more about Piper on the Cherry Capital Airport website.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This will be the final appearance of Animals Gone Viral, as writer Danielle Tepper is leaving her position at the Gazette this month.
