Home Recycled Home: Fork Holders

IMG_6680Do you have a pile of mismatched forks or even one or two that just don’t fit? A great reuse for those forks is to create these easy place card holders that double as photo holders!

What you will need:

  • Forks
  • Pliers
  • (That’s it!)

Fork Photo Holder - May 2014Step 1: After cleaning the forks, fill a sink with hot water. Soak the forks for 5-10 minutes in the hot water. This will help make them more pliable and easier to bend.

Step 2: Using pliers, carefully bend the two end prongs at equal distance, about 1/8” toward the front of the forks.

Step 3: Bend the middle prongs backward slightly to support the fork and provide balance.

Step 4: You may need to bend the fork handle back slightly to provide balance and allow the project to stand freely. Adjust your prongs as needed.

This is a simple project that will wow your dinner guests. You can reuse the forks time and time again or send them home with your guests as inexpensive party favors. There are many ways to get more creative with your old forks such as changing the direction of your prongs or adding a twist to the fork handle!

Don’t have extra forks lying around? Check out your local thrift store – you might just find some vintage forks for less than a quarter!

Do you have an item (or a collection of items) that you are looking to recycle? Send a picture of your products over and I just might use them in a future project! Pictures should be emailed to awanamaker@townandcountrygazette.com. Please be sure to include your name and contact info.
