Be a Part of History! The members of the Slatington 150th Anniversary Committee are busy planning the anniversary celebration that will kick of with a pig roast on Saturday August 24, 2013 at the covered bridge on Seventh Street in Slatington. There are several planning committees working on events that will keep the celebration going all year. Everyone is invited to attend the kick off celebration that will include a pig roast, live music and dancing as well as many other activities. Further details, including time and ticket availability will be forthcoming. In addition to the pig roast, there are many ways to get involved in the celebration and be a part of this historic event. Members for the planning committee are still needed. If you are available to donate some of your time and talents to help make this celebration a memorable one, come to the next meeting, they are held the first and third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Vigilant Fire Co, downstairs. You can also contact any committee member for more information if you are unable to attend a meeting but would still like to help. Sponsorships are needed to help us celebrate. A tax deductible donation/sponsorship enables you to be seen by the community as a dedicated community advocate. Many levels of sponsorship are available if you or your business are interested please contact Denise Smith at 610-573-8044. Charter memberships are now available to all businesses and groups who wish to participate. Charters are an integral part of the celebration and will help make the event fun. Current Charters include Benjamin Real Estate, HomeSlate, Masonic Lodge 440 F&AM, Slatington Lions, The Shack, Vigilant Fire Co., Walnut St. Playground Association, the Skeet Club and the Women’s Club of Slatington. History Book! To help commemorate the 150th anniversary of Slatington, the history committee is planning on printing a history book. The book subjects will be miscellaneous history, businesses, disasters, family history, pictures and sports. Persons interested in submitting information for use in the book may upload the information to the committee’s Facebook page Slatington 150 History Committee, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The 150 History Committee is also looking for additional people to serve on the committee to help research, write and layout the book. Town & Country Gazette will dedicate the August 15, 2013 edition of the Gazette to the Slatington Anniversary.
