Sesquicentennial to be celebrated in August 2014 Slatington Sesquicentennial officials today announced Jonathan Jakum, a Graphic Illustrator from Slatington (Heidelberg Township), as the winner of Slatington’s 150th anniversary logo contest. As part of the Celebration’s first pre-event initiative, residents were invited to design a logo around the celebration of the town and it’s history, which the Committee will use in all promotional and event efforts. The logo contest, open to all interested participants, was conducted over a two-month period. Over two-dozen entries were received in that time. “The caliber of designs we received was amazing. All of the entries demonstrated pride for our rich history and all of the artists took time to depict what they feel is at the core of who we are as Slatington residents,” Public Relations Committee Chair Alice Wanamaker said. “I am thankful for everyone who submitted a logo, and I am excited to get the celebrations under-way.” According to Jonathan Jakum, the design was inspired by the historic aspect of Slatington, “I tried to incorporate elements from around Slatington and the history inspired the design,” he said. Jakum graduated with a Communications Design degree in 1995. Originally from Gettysburg, he has been in the area for about five years. Jakum read about the contest on Facebook. The logo will be prominently featured during all anniversary celebration events, on all marketing and publicity materials including merchandising, website and social media, printed materials, as well as incorporated into keepsake items. Jakum will be honored at an upcoming committee meeting when the logo is officially unveiled. Slatington’s Sesquicentennial celebration is developed to fund, promote and host a series of events designed to honor the heritage of Slatington.
