Northern Lehigh Little Theater’s performance of “Little Shop of Horrors” is an astonishingly good one. Director Nick Sander took a risk casting a theatrical rookie as the lead. However, he offset his daring appointment by casting an experienced actress, Sydney Martin, in the leading female role. The two work beautifully together and their on-stage chemistry carries even to the cheap seats.
Performing a fan-favorite musical is sure to attract a larger audience. The biggest surprise is the performance of the pit orchestra that is located high above the set.
Seymour, played by the newbie, Aidan Burke, is a flower shop employee who discovers a new plant that he names, “Audrey II” in homage to his heartthrob and co-worker, Audrey, played by theaforementioned Martin. The plant skyrockets Seymour’s popularity, but as his status grows so does the plant. Seymour has the task of fighting off his newly acquired followers as well as “Audrey II” who has developed an unusual hunger.
Who wins out? Come to Northern Lehigh high school and see the performance on Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. or on Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. to find out!
