Support the Children’s Christmas Gift Program

While it may seem too early to be thinking about Christmas, Friedens United Church of Christ has begun planning and sponsoring the Children’s Christmas Gift Program.  In conjunction with the Northern Lehigh Pastoral Association and the Northern Lehigh Food Bank, Friedens Church will serve as the coordination and distribution site again this year.

The mission of this program is to provide gifts to local children up to age 14 whose families are served by the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.  For some children, these are the only gifts they may receive for Christmas.  For others, it may mean a few more gifts that they receive.  Whatever the case, these gifts mean so much to people who find themselves in bad economic times.

Food Bank parents must register their children to be eligible to receive gifts.  Sign-ups will be at the church on different days, different times and for several weeks in order to meet applicants’ schedules.  The Food Bank will inform clients of the dates and provide further instructions on the process.

Churches and organizations that would like to participate should send a representative, who will then serve as a contact person, to Friedens UCC on Saturday, Oct. 20 to let the committee know how many children they wish to sponsor.  Names of children and their gift suggestions will be available for pick up on November 3 at 10am.  Families and individuals wishing to sponsor a child may call the church at 610-767-7099 and leave a message. State your name, a number where you can be reached and the reason for calling.  Someone will return your call as soon as possible.

Gifts must be new, wrapped, and tagged when delivered to the church on Saturday, December 15 between 8:00am and 11:00am. Distribution to the families will be Saturday December 15, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Friedens Church. Due to safety issues, no bicycles or skateboards will be accepted. There will be a limit of three gifts per child and each item should not exceed $20.00. .

Help is also needed on the day of the distribution. A few young people are needed to be “runners”. Perhaps your group would be interested in this as a community service project.

The Children’s Christmas Gift Program has brightened the lives of local children at the holidays for many years.  Last year one of the people who was dropping off gifts for a child remarked that years ago when she was a child, she had received gifts from this program and now that she was able, it was her turn to give back.  The people of the Northern Lehigh area are very caring, giving people and we pray that you can find it in your heart to touch the life of a child at this advent season filled with love and joy.
